If you are driving around in the countryside of Northern Italy, Southwest of Milan, make sure to stop by a fabulous, little Osteria in Cascina Viscontina, Trivolzio (PV) – near Bereguardo – called La Gallina Fumante.

This little Osteria, with both comfortable inside and open, yet covered outdoor seating, is a perfect place to stop for a two or three course meal at a very reasonable price.  This restaurant is opened every day for lunch, except on Sundays.  However, they may be open for dinner, but only if a reservation is made for a banquet or reception (minimum of 20 people).

The Primi/Antipasto is usually a pasta with either vegetables, fish, or meat.  Then you choose a main and a Contorno (side) together for your main entree.  All this for just €15.  And, trust me, you will be pleasantly full by the end of your meal.  You may have enough room for a dessert, but depends on how hungry you are.

The menu changes frequently, as freshly prepared daily, but you are sure to find a great selection every time.  Also, if you walk around, you are sure to find a hen or a rooster roaming nearby the restaurant – so you know the chicken is always fresh.

The staff are pleasant and very accommodating, so you will be treated well from beginning to end.  Just note that you will have to pay inside at the Bar when finished.  Also, since they are usually busy, they need to clear the tables promptly once you have finished, as there is always someone else waiting for a table to clear up.  Either way, you can always get an espresso or a post-lunch drink at the bar, if you would like.

Between good service, food, and ambiance, you are sure to enjoy your lunchtime if you stop by.
